Birmingham is a great city, often refered to as the second city in the United Kingdom. It is part of the metropolitan borough West Midlands and is the second most populated area of the uk, first being London.
Birmingham has a fantastic detailed history and was the strong power house of the english industrial revolution, this lead to the city being nick named the “city of a thousand trades” . The city’s industrial importance has recently declined and the global economic recession caused it to decline further, on a posotive note Birmingham was voted the second best place to start a business.
In 2010 Birmingham was voted the 55th most livable place to live in out of the whole world. Birmingham is currently part of a plan to develop it, this is called “the big city plan” , the aim of the plan is to make it one of the top 20 best places to live in the world at a cost to the tax payer of 17 Billion. The recent global economic recession has delayed this by at least two years but things seem to be restarting at a fast pace in 2010.
